¿Alineación astral? ¿Contraprogramación? ¿Pura casualidad?
No deja de resultarme curioso que dos de las bandas más grandes del Heavy Metal de todos los tiempos hayan coincidido en presentar material el mismo día. Incluso se llegó a pensar que iban a presentar una gira conjunta.
Iron Maiden, tras varios días de rumores acerca de la camiseta que llevaba Bruce Dickinson en una entrevista, el cartelito que se veía detrás en una foto, etc, etc, anunciaban finalmente a bombo y platillo que en el día de hoy estábamos invitados a «Belshazzar’s Feast», que ha resultado ser el estreno de un nuevo tema titulado «Writing on the Wall» y que formará parte, presumiblemente, de su próximo disco de estudio.
Mientras tanto, Judas Priest, en el marco del 50º aniversario de la banda y con menos publicidad previa, han lanzado una caja con todas sus obras remasterizadas y algunas cosillas más que os detallamos más abajo.
Vamos al grano.
Iron Maiden
A las 7 de la tarde, hora peninsular española, pudimos asistir al estreno del video clip del tema «Writing on the Wall», una pieza de poco más de 6 minutos, a medio tiempo, compuesta por Adrian Smith y Bruce Dickinson, con un sonido de guitarras que podríamos calificar como inspirado por el blues-rock de los años 70 del siglo XX y un Dickinson pletórico.
En el aspecto visual, se trata de un vídeo de animación dirigido por Nicos Livesey, del estudio de animación BlinkInk, con sede en Londres. En la producción están involucrados también Mark Andrews y Andrew Gordon, dos exejecutivos de Pixar.
Respecto al aspecto lírico, el festín de Baltasar, que es como se traduce al español «Balshazzar’s Feast», es un pasaje bíblico, también conocido como «La escritura en la pared», que relata cómo el profeta Daniel, cautivo en Babilonia, le traduce al rey Baltasar, hijo de Nabucodonosor, los caracteres que una misteriosa mano ha escrito en la pared del palacio mientras se celebraba una fiesta para celebrar la destrucción del primer templo. Daniel le dice a Baltasar que la escritura de la pared le está advirtiendo de que Babilonia pronto caerá en manos de los medos y los persas y el rey morirá.
Judas Priest
Por su parte, los veteranos Judas Priest celebran el quincuagésimo aniversario con la edición de una bestial caja que incluye todos sus discos remasterizados (sí, los de la era Ripper también), así como varias grabaciones de conciertos que no habían sido publicadas hasta ahora, posters, postales firmadas, un libro de fotos y hasta una cuchilla del «British Steel» (pero sin afilar, el afilador lo pagas tú).
Todo por 345 £, que al cambio son unos 404 €, como podéis comprobar en la tienda online de la banda.
Ni idea de si os lo podría financiar el banco. En la redacción de Esquirlas de Metal hay quien se ha comprado una hucha de cerdito para ir ahorrando.
Con algo más de detalle, estos serían los contenidos:
- 3 directos inéditos grabados en 24 pistas,
- 5 directos de los archivos del grupo, en estéreo,
- todos los discos de la banda remasterizados por Alex Wharton a partir de las grabaciones originales. Por lo visto, lo ha hecho en los estudios de Abbey Road,
- todos los CDs vienen en mini carpetas de cartón de «tipo vinilo», al estilo japonés,
- caja diseñada por Mark Wilkinson,
- fotos de los miembros actuales del grupo realizadas por Ross Halfin y firmadas,
- cuchilla «British Steel» numerada y sin afilar,
- un libro de recuerdos con fotos poco comunes, pases, posters y anuncios,
- una réplica del programa de «British Steel»,
- dos posters réplica de carteles de la gira alemana de «British Steel» y la gira europea de «Defenders of the Faith».
